Jesualdo Tomás Fernández Breis was born in Archena, Murcia on May 20, 1976. He received a Bs degree in Computer Science from the University of Murcia in 1997, and a Ms degree in Computer Engineering from the same university in 1999. He obtained a European PhD degree in Computer Engineering in 2003 from the University of Murcia, which was possible thanks to a PhD Scholarship from the Seneca Foundation.
He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Informatics and Systems, which he joined in 2003. He has served as Vicedean of the School of Computer Science at the University of Murcia (Spain) from 2006 to 2010. Some of his responsabilities were the International Exchange Programmes and the Industrial Placements of our students. He was part of the organizing committee of the XXV Anniversary of the computing studies at the University of Murcia. In 2010 he has become Web Coordinator of the University of Murcia.

He has been keynote speaker at SATBI 2011
He is guest editor(with Mikel Egaña and Michel Dumontier) of the Special Issue on Linked Data for Health Care and the Life Sciences in the Semantic Web Journal, whose deadline is April, 1st.
His PhD thesis (Chapter 8 is a summary in English) targeted the automatic integration of ontologies for building Knowledge Management systems. His research activity has been mainly done in the area of Semantic Web and Ontological Engineering from a technological perspective, and applied to Biomedical domains and E-Learning. He has taken part in and directed various research projects and has published several papers in JCR journals. He has also done research stays in prestigious research institutions.
His main current activity is focused on the research of Semantic Web technologies for Medical Informatics, Bioinformatics and E-learning. A brief description of my activity in these areas are described next:
