Biographical sketch

Roque Marín Morales was born in Almería, Spain, in 1959. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Granada, Spain, in 1981 and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 1987, both in physics. He is Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Information Engineering and Communications at the University of Murcia since 1993, and head of the Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Engineering (AIKE) research group. Prior to joining University of Murcia, he worked for 11 years in the Department of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

He has authored/co-authored over 75 journal papers, 16 books chapters, 7 edited books and 102 congress papers. He won several grants for research on the field of applied biomedical engineering. He and I. Navarrete received the CAEPIA’99 / TTIA’99 best paper award by the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (AEPIA). He has organized/co-organized several national conferences, seminars and summer courses, and he is a member of the program committee of several national and international conferences.

His research interests focus on temporal reasoning, fuzzy systems, knowledge-based systems, knowledge engineering methodologies, AAL and, in particular, the application of these techniques to solving practical problems in medicine.

He is currently RETIRED.
