**DESCRIPCIÓN:** Análisis y descripción de obras de literatura en inglés, traducciones audiovisuales entre inglés y español, traducción especializada entre inglés y español en el ámbito anglófono. Literatura feminista y LGTBIQ+ en inglés: aspectos relacionados con la identidad, la representación. Descripción y caracterización del lenguaje inclusivo en inglés y español. Inglés para fines específicos: empresa, tecnología, derechos humanos.

===== Ethical Implications of Inclusive Language for English to Spanish Translation ====


**Briefest of summaries**

  * Can language changes be both a **tool**, a **symptom**, and the **result** of a fairer world? 
  * Can speakers change languages intentionally and purposefully? 
  * Which are the implications of justice-based language changes for the translation and interpreting profession? 

This work will focus on the **ethical implications of inclusive language for translators and interpreters**. 
  * It will first clarify the concept of inclusive language from multiple human-rights- based perspectives, in the light of recent intersectional feminist and queer theory developments. 
  * Then it will study its nature, usage, history, downsides, proponents, opponents, and beneficiaries both in English and in Spanish. 
  * Finally, it will document instances of its use and of (both common and extraordinary) practices regarding its presence or absence in translated discourse as a cultural transmission point.

Its final goal is to provide solid data for discussing the implications of this phenomenon for the translation profession at large:     
  * Is it ethical to ignore or reject community-based language changes, in the light that they may contribute to the liberation of oppressed humans? 
  * In the unavoidably practical translation world, which is the (human) benefit-cost ratio of inclusive language efforts? 
  * When, if at all, is it too much to ask? 
  * In which cases would inclusive language white/pink-wash harsh realities that would put people at risk? 
  * In which cases would translation by inaction (by its invisibility and neutrality status) contribute to sustaining the systems that create the power imbalances that it tries to (not) highlight?
