ABSTRACT

The aim of this project is to design, implement and evaluate a framework for the publication and intelligent web access to existing health data about patient based upon formal models for the description of clinical meaning, both for health care and investigation purposes. The dual model approach to the design of the EHR communication architecture will be used in the design and generation of the underlying federated EHR. The canonical model for the
representation of clinical information will be EN13606 from CEN/TC251, it also will be used as clinical data exchange format. For the semantic representation of EN13606, the ontological technology will be used and the standard ontological language for the representation and exchange of ontologies in the web, OWL, will be used. Finally, web tools for the (semi)automatic generation of ontologies from EN13606 archetypes, enabling intelligent web access to existing clinical information, and interfaces promoting the interoperability of the global platform will be implemented by means of semantic web technologies

OBJECTIVES

The methodology to be developed is by itself a relevant contribution on the field of Electronic Healthcare Records, namely:

a) the development of formal, shareable and reusable models for the design, generation and use of standardised federated electronic health based upon advanced knowledge and semantic web technologies

b) publishing existing clinical information as a valid extract of an EHR compliant with the European standard;

c) intelligent and customised access to existing clinical information compatible with EN13606;
