Juan Jorge Piernas López is Senior Lecturer (accredited as ‘Profesor Titular’ by the National Quality Assessment and Accreditation Agency of Spain -ANECA- since 2019) of European Union and International Law at the University of Murcia, and Vice-Dean for International Relations at the Faculty of Law.

He holds a PhD in Law from the European University Institute (Florence, Italy, 2013), a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School (Cambridge, MA, USA, 2007), and a Masters in European Law, Economics and Politics from the College of Europe (Natolin, Poland, 2005, First Class Honors).

He has previously worked in the Brussels office of the law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton (2007-2009) in matters related to Competition Law and the Internal Market and in the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission (2006).

Juan Jorge Piernas López has published extensively on European Union and International Law, highlighting his monograph entitled The Concept of State Aid Under EU Law From internal market to competition and beyond, published by Oxford University Press (Oxford Studies in European Law) in 2015.

Juan Jorge Piernas López es Doctor en Derecho por el Instituto Universitario Europeo de Florencia (2013), graduado por la Universidad de Harvard (LL.M., Harvard Law School 2007), por el Colegio de Europa (Máster en Estudios Europeos Avanzados (Natolin, Polonia 2005), y por la Universidad de Murcia (Licenciatura en Derecho, 2003).

Juan Jorge Piernas López es Profesor Titular (acreditado) de Derecho de la Unión Europea y Derecho internacional en la Universidad de Murcia, y Vicedecano de Relaciones Internacionales de la Facultad de Derecho. Previamente ha trabajado en la oficina de Bruselas del despacho de abogados Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton (2007-2009) en asuntos relacionados con el Derecho de la Competencia y el Mercado interior y en la Dirección General de Competencia de la Comisión Europea (2006).

Juan Jorge Piernas López ha publicado extensamente sobre Derecho de la Unión Europea y Derecho internacional, destacando su monografía titulada The Concept of State Aid Under EU Law From internal market to competition and beyond, publicada por Oxford University Press (Oxford Studies in European Law) en 2015.
