Research highlights

Platinum(IV) Emitters

In contrast to other d6 transition-metal complexes, luminescent Pt(IV) systems have received comparatively little attention. Since 2014, our group has focused on the synthesis and investigation of the photophysical and electrochemical properties of strongly phosphorescent Pt(IV) complexes featuring cyclometalated 2-arylpyridine and/or aryl–N-heterocyclic carbene ligands. These efforts have led to the development of unprecedented classes of compounds capable of displaying long-lived and highly efficient emissions with tunable energies. In addition, many of these complexes exhibit large redox gaps and a strongly oxidizing character in the excited state, making them promising candidates for photocatalytic applications.
