Email is a non-expensive, fast, informal and easy-to-use method of written communication with a real audience, which gives learners time to draft and redraft messages until they are satisfied with what they have written. Incoming target language messages give pupils motivating opportunities to cope with reading unknown language. And they can also exchange digital photos and voice recordings, which adds to the motivational component of this technology.
