I am still in the initial phase of corpus design, that is, making decisions and compiling the corpus which could amount up to 6,000,000 words. It is a specialised one which aims at establishing the core vocabulary of this basic genre in all common law legal systems. Due to its vastness (not only lexical but also geographical), I have focused on the UK and its countries: Norhtern Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales (these two share the same system and tribunal structure acting as one single country regarding judicial decisions).

Due to the scarcity of specialised teaching materials and the methodological void derived from this, I have decided to design and analyse this legal corpus, which I have called the BLaRC (British Law Report Corpus), in order to establish the core vocabulary of UK law reports, a central genre in legal systems based on jurisprudence like the UK, USA, Australia, etc.
